Other useful Information: She was a rescue who was originally on the streets in suburban NJ for almost a year; her ear is clipped as in catch/release but she seemed to like people --even though she was hunting her own food with great success, she would meow in everyone's back yard and try to get closer, then run away. The thought is that she might have been originally abandoned and then turned feral--the neighbors all noticed her meowing, and my sister began to feed her, then trapped her when the weather turned colder, and brought her to a rescue that fostered her for 8 months. It took 3 months for her to start interacting with the foster person, and she has remained shy and easily scared. I brought her up from NJ on Monday 7/10/23 and put her in a quiet room to acclimate. She hid and did not touch water or food for the entire time, so very stressed. The room was getting hot with the door closed, so I cracked the window a few inches to cool it down--I thought it wasn't enough for her to get through because it's the same amount I do for my own cats, who are smaller than her and have never been able to fit through-- but she managed to wiggle through and claw out the screen, then jump 20 feet down from the second floor window. I think she was just desperate to get out. She is a good hunter and she had a very soft landing on clover/thyme and damp ground so I am hoping that she is uninjured and has found safety and food. I am leaving food out for her, as is another neighbor. There are woods all around and barns and out buildings so I'm hoping she will stay in the area but she is very stressed and very scared.
