Our Staff
Maya Richmond, Executive Director
Maya was hired in August of 2021. Maya grew up in Calais, VT and earned her B.S. from UVM, her MBA at St. Michael’s College and worked at Middlebury College as Director of Animal Programs and Associate Director of Laboratory Support. During that time, she served on the Board of Directors of the Addison County Humane Society and discovered her passion for animal welfare. She served as Director of Program Development and Operations at the Maryland SPCA from 2003 to 2009 and at the Animal Welfare Association (AWA) in New Jersey from 2009 to 2021.
Keri Roberts, Director of Operations
Keri started working at WCHS in 2002, so she holds the record for longevity. A natural at working with people, Keri easily moved into the role of Director of Operations. Somehow, she still finds time to cuddle the kittens. Keri lives in Putney and enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris and their son Devin. Their twin daughters Kayleigh and Brooke are now enjoying their adulthood. Keri enjoys hiking with her dogs Kody and Delilah and spending time with her cat Neko.
Dr. Tara Torcoletti, Veterinarian
Graduated from Colorado State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. After graduation, she moved to Vermont where she has been working as a small animal veterinarian. She enjoys volunteering and has done a spay-neuter clinic in the Dominican Republic with World Vets, a Rabies Vaccine drive in Tanzania with Mission Rabies, and multiple trips with 4 Luv of Dog Rescue out of North Dakota, that provides spay, neuter, and vaccines on Native American reservations in North and South Dakota. In her free time, she enjoys doing anything she can outside, biking, hiking, kayaking snowboarding, etc. Dr. Toroletti is at the shelter on Mondays and Thursdays seeing clinic clients, performing surgeries, and tending to the care of the shelter animals.
Michele Martino, DVM
Dr. Martino was our first on-staff veterinarian and she is the perfect fit for us! She always has a creative solution to every problem. Dr. Martino is at the shelter the first Friday of each month, seeing patients.
Lauren Von Krusenstiern, Volunteer Coordinator
Lauren began her involvement with WCHS in 2008 when she came to adopt a kitten, and went home with a pregnant mama, becoming a foster. She went on to foster many litters, as well as co-teach WCHS Kids' Club. During this time, while raising her children, she was an Art teacher and moved on to work in the wool world.. Being someone who loves hearing stories and making connections through animals, she feels grateful to be working in an environment that cares so much about our community's pets and their welfare.
Eric Brow, Canine Coordinator
Eric started as a volunteer and was hired as our Kennel Tech in 2012. He has been such an asset to the team that he was promoted to Canine Specialist in the fall of 2017. Eric grew up and lives in Brattleboro.
Heather Harlow, Clinic Manager
Heather has over 20 years of experience working at the VT-NH Veterinary Clinic. She is a familiar face to many for her years at One Stop Country Pet Supply. She lives with her two dogs, George and the notorious Lulu, who was rescued by WCHS from a Native American Reservation in New Mexico.
Mary Jane Rickards, Veterinary Technician
Mary Jane also started as a volunteer. When we found out she had years of vet tech experience, we gladly added her to the staff. MJ loves all animals, especially snakes and ferrets and brings her calm skills to the surgery room.
Hayley Hescock, Feline Coordinator
Hayley works with dogs, cats and smallies, providing loving care to all our residents. Her mom works at a local Veterinary Clinic, often bringing home sick or injured animals to help care for, so Hayley has grown up around may different types of pets.
Devin Roberts, Animal Care Technician
Devin works with dogs and cats and loves keeping the shelter clean and the animals comfortable. When not at work, you might find him running, hiking or biking the local trails. He has 1 dog and 1 cat at home, both from WCHS!
