21st Annual Walk for Animals

  • Brattleboro Elk’s Lodge 75 Putney Rd Brattleboro, VT United States (map)

Join Windham County Humane Society for the 21st Annual Walk for Animals! Help us raise funds to provide loving care for animals in need by asking your friends, family, and colleagues to support your walk with a donation. Download your pledge sheet here.

The 2023 Walk begins and ends at the Brattleboro Elk’s Lodge front lawn (across from the Common). Registration opens at 9 a.m., and the Walk begins at 10 a.m. (we will walk an approximately 1.5 mile loop through Downtown Brattleboro) followed by treats for both humans and pups, games, and prizes back at the Elks Lodge lawn.

This year, Walkers can look forward to:

  • Live music by Hazelnuts, providing the perfect soundtrack to the day

  • An Ask the Vet and Ask the Trainer booth - bring your questions, learn something new, and collect helpful tips and tricks

  • Games! Can you guess the difference between a cookie made for humans vs. a cookie made for dogs? Can your dog sniff-and-seek out our list of hidden scents? Will we have a new champion at our Peanut Butter Licking contest?

If you can’t be there in person, please join us in spirit by donating. This is our only Fall fundraiser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 2023 Walk route and where do I park?

The Walk for Animals will begin and end on the Brattleboro Elk’s Lodge front lawn (on Putney Road, across from the Common). Please park in Downtown Brattleboro at your location of choice. The approximately 1.3 mile Walk will begin at 10 AM. Please reference the map below for an overview of the route.

Can I bring my dog to the Walk for Animals?
Yes! Social, well-behaved dogs who would enjoy being around people and other dogs are welcome to attend the WCHS Walk with you, so long as they remain on a leash at all times (no flexi-leads, please).

How will the funds raised for the Walk for Animals be used?
We have set a high goal for our 2022 Walk: $25,000. We're confident that our community can band together to make it happen! This has been an incredibly costly year for WCHS; our expenses are higher than ever, donations are down, and we have a constant stream of local dogs and cats coming through our doors in need of homes and/or care. It takes approximately $1,000 a day just to run the shelter! Every dollar raised from the Walk goes towards providing pet food, medications, vaccinations, and kennel cleaning supplies for the shelter.

How do I raise money for the Walk and how do I send it to WCHS?
Individual Walk donations can be made online at any time, or mailed by check: WCHS, PO 397, Brattleboro, VT 05302. Walk attendees who are pledging to raise additional funds can download a Pledge form. We encourage attendees to set a fundraising goal and to ask their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers to make a donation towards it.

To set up a Facebook fundraiser: simply click this link! This is a tried-and-true method for "fetching funds"!

Fundraising efforts can also be paid with cash, check, or MasterCard/Visa/Amex on the day of the Walk.

I raised $30+ or $55+ for the Walk, how do I get my goodie bag and t-shirt?
Our goodie bags and 2022 commemorative t-shirts will be available at the Walk (while supplies last) for individuals who have met the respective fundraising goals. Please keep in mind that supplies and sizes are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis - so arrive early!
